Entertainment Experiences in New Autodesk Maya 2010

3Dconnexion 3D Mice Help Artists Create Compelling Entertainment Experiences in New Autodesk Maya 2010

FREMONT, Calif. — 3Dconnexion’s award-winning line of 3D mice – including its flagship SpacePilot™ PRO 3D mouse – now support Autodesk® Maya® 2010. Artists, designers and 3D enthusiasts working in the new end-to-end creative workflow can use 3Dconnexion 3D mice to create compelling entertainment experiences, designs and digital imagery more naturally and intuitively.

3Dconnexion 3D mice enhance the design experience in Maya 2010 with several workflow benefits, enabling designers to concentrate more on the creative side of their designs. Highlights include:

  • Direct Connection with Maya 3D Workspace: 3Dconnexion’s advanced six-degrees-of-freedom sensor technology allows designers to simultaneously maneuver 3D objects or move within 3D scenes by gently pushing, pulling, tilting or sliding the 3D mouse controller cap. Using a 3D mouse together with a traditional mouse engages both hands in a balanced and cooperative work style and provides more control than just using a standard mouse alone that is confined to motion on two flat planes.
  • Enhanced Advanced Simulations: In addition to improving the design experience, 3Dconnexion 3D mice enable artists to freely navigate around models to inspect details with greater ease, helping them identify potential simulation issues in Maya nCloth, Maya nParticles, Maya Fluid Effects, Maya Hair, and Maya Fur. For example, the ability to preview and verify a design from various angles allows designers working with Maya nCloth to detect interpenetration problem areas (such as the bunching of a shirt into an avatar’s chest) faster, leading to higher quality simulations in less time.
  • Less Time Spent Toggling Views and Commands: 3Dconnexion 3D mice buttons are pre-configured for the most commonly used commands in Maya 2010, however, designers can also further customize the programmable buttons on 3Dconnexion 3D mice to suit their personal workflow needs using Maya’s built-in button mapping editor.

Maya 2010 is compatible with the entire 3Dconnexion 3D mouse product line, including the Professional Series with the SpacePilot PRO (MSRP $399), SpacePilot (MSRP $299 with promotion) and SpaceExplorer™ (MSRP $299), and the Standard Series with the SpaceNavigator (MSRP $99) and SpaceNavigator for Notebooks (MSRP $129).
