The 3Dconnexion Properties Windows doesn’t open
Problem
The 3Dconnexion driver installed properly, but the properties panel cannot be opened to adjust button configuration or advanced settings.
Solution
If AVG antivirus software is installed, an exception must be made for the 3Dconnexion SmartUI.exe, which is the executable responsible for running the driver’s GUI, including button mapping and advanced settings. In order to add an exception to AVG, please follow the steps below:
- Open the AVG software panel and select advanced settings from the options menu.
- From the advanced settings dialog, choose “Exceptions” and then select “Add exception”.
- Select “Application or File” as the exception type and then browse to the 3Dconnexion directory, by default this is C:\Program Files. In the 3DxWare\3DxWincore64 folder, select 3DxSmartUI.exe (this will be 3DxWincore32 on a 32 bit machine). Select OK.
- Once the exception has been added, select “Apply” in the AVG advanced settings panel.
- Verify the 3Dconnexion Properties Panel can be opened by right clicking the 3Dconnexion icon in the system tray and selecting “Open 3Dconnexion Properties.”
