Creo Toolkit startup errors on application start referencing duplicates of protk.dat files

For Creo versions 2.0 M150 to M210 and Creo 3.0 M040 to M080, if there is an entry for PROTKDAT in the “config.pro” file, error messages are generated for all other entries in this file.

Removing all subfolders in “C:\ProgramData\PTC\«Creo Version»\Plugins” (e.g. “3DxProEngineer” – the name of the folder is irrelevant) these errors disappear but the 3Dconnexion plugin isn’t loaded then.

The issue is reported fixed by PTC in Creo 2.0 M220 and Creo 3.0 M090.  In order to remove the errors on previous versions, the plugin can still be loaded by using the old scheme.  The steps for the workaround are:

1. Copy the file “C:\ProgramData\PTC\«Creo Version»\Plugins\3DxProEngineer\protk.dat” to “C:\Program Files\PTC\«Creo Version»\Common Files\«datecode»\text”

2. Delete the folder “3DxProEngineer” in “C:\ProgramData\PTC\«Creo Version»\Plugins”

Note: You might have to change the path of the files according to the version and installation location of Creo that you have installed.
